REVENGE OF THE MAILMAN PART II

Keith Mosher with DP Jason Coblentz.

CCF: Your budget was around $3,000. Was that a set amount you started out with or did it sort of build up to that as you went?

KM: Originally I wanted to shoot this whole film on less than $1,000. Unfortunately, I missed my goal by a small margin. Here is a basic breakdown of the numbers, rounded up obviously:

* $600 General Supplies (includes: airsoft weapons, bicycle helmets, dragon skin and other make-up/fx supplies, breakaway tables, costume components, prop construction, DV Tapes… etc.)

* $700 Promotion (includes: web site maintenance, domain, business cards, t-shirts, hats, postcards, and posters)

* $900 Craft Services

CCF: What can people expect from your film?

KM: Sex, violence, guns, the mob, strippers, explosions, Jehovah’s Witnesses, more guns, ball gags, fire breathing, fast cars and of course Pink Jesus. Yeah, that’s about it.

Chris Gabriel in a Mamma said knock you out with a chain pose.

CCF: Tell us a bit about the stunts. What are some of the cool things that we’ll get to see in the finished product?

KM: You may not believe this, but after posting an ad on Craigslist, a professional Stunt Choreographer from L.A. contacted me. His name is Marque Ohmes and he wanted to come to Las Vegas and meet with me about my film. Amazingly he was willing to travel from LA to Vegas on five separate occasions to help out with our film. As a result, you will see some stunts in our film that are high caliber. He not only provided his expertise, but a stunt crew and professional stunt gear to get the job done. Aside from those stunts we also have some nice stunt driving, 2x4’s being smashed over people’s heads and even a classic Mustang being blown up.

CCF: Sounds like fun. I can’t wait to see it. What is the expected date the film will be available to the public?

KM: We are hard at work on the editing of the film now, and are shooting for a December 13 theatre premiere. As it stands right now, this event will held at the Galaxy Theater in Las Vegas. If you want to get a special preview of the film, we will be screening the first 30 minutes at the High Desert Shorts International Film Festival, which is in Pahrump November 6-8. As soon as we have our premiere, the DVD will become available for purchase; however you can pre-order the DVD right now and save some cash. Check out the official site for more information.

CCF: Now, being that you, your star and a few others work for the U.S. Postal Service, does it concern you in anyway how some might perceive the violence in the project? You know there’s the whole "going postal" stereotype because of the rash of violence during the late 80’s and 90’s by employees. Even though the story of “One Long Day” has nothing to do with mail, was there ever a point that you thought, “his isn’t going to look right, I’m going to just perpetuate that line of thinking,” or anything like that?

KM: The thought never occurred to me, and to be honest I don’t see the correlation. This is kind of like the theory that video game violence prompts children to act out violently. I just don’t buy into that garbage. Heck, I was watching Rambo kill people since I was a little pup, and I am far from a viscous violent person ...although you might not think so, after watching my movie. And here’s a little secret for you. You know why so many Postal workers have gone over the edge? Because the Post Office loves to hire combat veterans, many from the Vietnam era. In fact, almost all of my co-workers (myself included) are war vets. So, yeah, you shouldn’t go pissing off a combat vet, it’s not a good thing to do. We had one guy in my office, that just returned from three consecutive tours in Iraq, and the supervisors did nothing but treat him like shit. Guys like that, they should be left alone.

CCF: I haven’t seen Uwe Boll’s film “Postal” as it was only shown in like three movie theaters nationwide. But the movie is coming out on DVD later this month. I’m not sure it his film even has anything to do with the post office either. But just the name “Postal” causes an association with the mail service and violence. What are your thoughts on that movie and the video games it’s based off? Having seen or played them, or not, does this perpetuate negativity toward your profession, etc?

KM: Well, my profession is a filmmaker, being a Postal Worker is just a side gig, one that will be ending very soon for me. As for the negative hype around it, I think I answered that one in the last question.

CCF: All right. (LOL) Uwe Boll aside. (LOL) Who are some of your influences directing-wise?

KM: Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, Peter Berg, Peter Jackson, Zack Snyder, Kevin Smith, Ron Howard, and Steven Spielberg all come to mind.

CCF: I also understand you have been writing a book about the process of making “One Long Day.” How is that going?

KM: It’s going a little slower than I would like. It’s tentatively titled “How I Made My First Action Film For Less Than $3,000.” I have two chapters under my belt along with a good outline and forward. It really goes step-by-step into how I made this movie. After several trips to the library in search of a book to teach me about guerilla filmmaking, I just couldn’t find what I was looking for. So I figured I would just write my own, so the next potential filmmaker would have it as a resource.

CCF: Lastly, what are you hoping will become of this film? Are you going to enter any film festivals, seek distribution, self distribute it or what?

KM: We have a few things on the horizon that are pretty exciting. First, we have the theater premiere at the Galaxy Theater. We are planning something a little different than the usual premier. The plan is to get around 400 people to the premiere, where they will watch the film in the theater, and then they will be able to purchase the DVD right on the spot, along with other merchandise like posters and t-shirts. We also hope to get the local media involved as much as possible. From there we will be hitting the festival circuit, first locally and then nationally, while selling the DVD online and trying to get distribution deals with many different outlets.

CCF: Cool Keith. Well, best of luck. Thanks.
